About IAPT

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is a NHS programme rolling out across England between 2008 and 2015 with training for staff and new or improved services for local communities.

The  (IAPT) programme supports the frontline NHS in implementing National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.

It was created to offer patients a realistic and routine first-line treatment, combined where appropriate with medication which traditionally had been the only treatment available. The programme was first targeted at people of working age but in 2010 was opened to adults of all ages.

In Derbyshire, there are IAPT services operating in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire and Amber Valley and Erewash.

For Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire the IAPT service is called Steps2Change.   Patients can be referred to Steps2Change by their GP.

For Amber Valley and Erewash the IAPT service is called RightSteps. Patients can be referred to RightSteps by their GP. If you would like to find out more about the national IAPT programe, please click here
